DIY Halloween Witch Tent: Turn a Kids Play Tent Into Spooky Fun

Every year about this time my house starts to turn into a workshop for Halloween decorations. A theme and a plan start cooking and slowly I drag things down from the attic and start ringing in spooky season. One of my all time favorite projects was the time I turned an Ikea CIRKUSTÄLT kids’ circus themed play tent into a giant witch head.  It’s a two-fer because it is fun for the kids but it also works as great DIY Halloween lawn decor.

Step 1: Paint the Witch Tent

Start by painting the sides of the tent green and the top black — this becomes the witch’s face and pointed hat. Use a multi-surface paint with good opaque coverage. Let each coat dry before adding the next if multiple coats are needed.

Step 2: Give the Witch Some Hair

Using a thick textured orange yarn start attaching it with a hot glue gun.  Frame the witch’s face with thick bangs so the hair reads clearly from a distance. I intentionally left her hair a big jagged for that witch that just rode in on her broom look.

Step 3: Paint the Face

This is where your witch gets her personality. Use craft paint  ( or paint markers) to add her features. Don’t forget the nose wart or better yet glue a pompom there to make it 3D.

Step 5: Set Up the DIY Halloween Witch Tent and Let the Kids Go!

All that is left to do is set the kids free! This tent is so cute and perfect for a Halloween party. For how inexpensive and easy it was to make it gives big witch energy and has a huge colorful impact!
