Can’t keep plants alive to save your life? No worries, I got you. I love plants – indoor or outdoor, spiky or smooth, flowering or leaves galore – I’m just not always the best at keeping them alive. Today we have five fun ways to craft your way to a green thumb with DIY plants and flowers.

This past spring and summer I had a grand time sharing my love of vintage enamel flower pins making these Framed Floral Fun bouquets. I taught this workshop in Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Austin. I’m even debating on making these online kits. What do you think? Pop over to Instagram and check out the Reel I made sharing all of my amazing students and their fun floral creations.

One of my very favorite craft mediums is cardboard! Empty boxes can become art installations for music festivals, log cabins for lumberjack parties, canvases to paint on, puppet show theaters, magazine holders for your desk or in this case houseplants. Yup, cut up some cardboard and make yourself a cactus. Toothpick spikes are completely optional.

Every so often I get obsessed with vintage plastic raffia and flower looms. I added several to the framed floral fun above but they also look great on Christmas tree skirts, purses, wreaths and anything else that will sit still long enough. You can find them vintage on eBay but the looms are still made and your can find them on Amazon. Don’t have plastic Swistraw, no problem you can make the flowers with yarn too.

I have a thing for 2 litter bottle crafts. Funny since I don’t even drink soda. Did you see my post 10 Creative Ways to Upcycle a Plastic Bottle – ya that pretty much covers it and all the ways I love to recycle these unlikely craft supplies. This bottle cactus from my book Upcycle It! Crafts For Kids is extra fun because it lights up! P.S. Check out the Halloween Witch version of this light too.

Can you turn strips of paper into flowers? You sure can with paper quilling. I had a brief love affair with this old school craft technique but now I enjoy using the strips on my gelliplate even more. Still fun to try and if you get a kit it will have everything you need.
I could go on and on with crafty plant ideas using felt, fabric, cork board, ribbon, foam and more but you get the idea.
