My sassy friend Margot Potter and the kind folks over at North Light Books recently sent me a couple of copies of New Dimensions in Bead and Wire Jewelry: Unexpected Combinations, Unique Designs. Margot makes me want to dust off my beads which is something I have not done in a long time. I was never much of a beader and never one to twist wire, but something about the colorful fun designs in New Dimensions makes me want to give it a whirl. There is an informative techniques and tools section to set even a novice wire twister like myself off on the right foot.
Carnavale is by far my favorite necklace in the book. An adorable wired necklace made with a combination of beads, buttons and keys. The bright fun colors and creative re-use of items really appeals to me. I also like that the necklace shows you that wire wrapping does not have to be perfect, free form looks just as good. I’d wear and make this necklace in a heartbeat.
A close second is the Kaleidoscope Necklace. One of the best things about this book is that sure there are plenty of beads as the title implies, but there are other goodies used like filigree discs and flower beads. If you can wire it, you can wear it. An objects weight is really the only thing standing in your way.
Not only necklaces Margot’s new book includes bracelet, tiara, earring and headband ideas. No matter what your favorite jewelry style, you will walk away from this book with a very strong urge to create. Margot is no stranger to the world of jewelry making as this is her 7th jewelry book for North Light, each one of them unique and inspiring.
This week we are giving away 2 copies of New Dimensions in Bead and Wire Jewelry: Unexpected Combinations, Unique Designs. Leave me a jewelry related comment and in a week I will pick 2 lucky winners!
I love the copper coil necklace with lime beads. So fun!

Love how the found objects are worked into the jewelry. My mom and I like to find rocks and shells on the beach each summer with holes or funky shapes specifically so we can add wire to them and make sculptures or jewelry 🙂
This wire jewelry is BEAUTIFUL! I make necklaces out of old buttons or crochet them with ribbon lace. But these you are showing are awesome.
Oooo, well-timed. I'm kinda done with my "vintage costume jewelry" kick but didn't have a direction to take new jewelry since I hate most of what is in style at the moment. This might be just what I needed!
making jewelry is so relaxing and rewarding.
I really like the use of Keys in the Last picture… verry original… It would make great earings too!
I just started teaching myself jewelry making. I just love the whimsical feel of the jewelry in Margot Power's book! My favorite that you've featured is probably the Kaleidoscope necklace, especially in that orange and blue combo!
I absolutely Love, Love, Love the Keys Necklace!!
I would enjoy and use the dickens out of this book!
The Pictures shown are just Beautiful. 🙂
Good Luck Everyone!
I love this concept and that's what always makes my art different – finding new and original uses for objects. Would love to win this book.
the night before my wedding, my friends and i beaded anklets to wear on the wedding day. it was a blast, and i haven't beaded since then (2+ years ago). this book looks fabulous and would get me back into it!
I haven't made any jewelry in a while.
I love love love making jewelry – this seems so cool!

God it's been years since I've worked with wire! This seems like a perfect excuse to start again.
I would love to win this book — have lots of girls in my family to make jewelry for! Thanks for making it available.
Thanks for the opportunity to win, they all look great.
I've always wanted to learn more jewelry making techniques. I've only known how to put beads on a string lol. And make friendship bracelets with embroidery thread, a skill my big sis taught me when I was ten. I love love love buttons, especially on jewelry because then you get to display your favorites. I've also been looking into knitted wire jewelry. Natural stone, glass, and enamel
I sooooo want to learn how to make jewelry!
I love beads-colors and textures and shapes oh my! I always need help with my wire skills and I would love to win this book! Thank you very much.
I just love Margot! What fun ideas. Please count me in. Thanks!
I'd love to win her book, she makes the neatest stuff. I wish I could ever find neat "ephemera" or "kitschy" stuff at yard sales for jewelry.
I really haven't made much jewelry in my crafting but lately I've been having a strong erge to give it a try. I especially LOVE the idea of reusing random objects to make unique baubles!!! Thanks for the chance to win this awesome book!!!!!
p.s. REALLY, REALLY miss your show!!!!
I agree the copper coil necklace is beautiful. Getting so inspired today!
