School is in full swing and that means homework assignments are right around the corner.  Why not encourage the kids to stitch up their own customized metal mesh desk caddy.  Not just for kids, everyone needs somewhere to corral their pens, pencils, markers and more.

The supplies you will need to stitch a desk caddy.

First you need mesh desk accessories. I see these everywhere, from the thrift store to the office supply store. I found my pencil holders in the Dollar Spot at Target.

Stitching your pen holder.

After you have your desk accessories the next thing you need is thread and a needle. I used embroidery floss and yarn. Make sure you get a needle that fits through the holes in your metal mesh.

How to stitch metal mesh.

 

Stitch, stitch and stitch some more. There is no right or wrong way. Add flowers, mod patterns, stripes or initials. These are super-quick and easy and make a desk look extra snazzy.

How to embroider a desk organizer.

 

Students are not the only ones who will love these. They are great for that artist in your life to keep their brushes, or for anyone to keep beside the bed to wrangle earplugs and reading glasses (or in my case, a grade-schooler’s homework caddy).
