When I got an email from Rob Walker last week I had almost forgotten about the interview I had done with him last spring for his upcoming book Buying In: The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are. I was in Waco, TX shopping in some antique and thrift stores as I chatted about the Austin Craft Mafia, Etsy and why buying handmade was important to me. The email came last week because Rob said a fact checker from the New York Times might be calling to quote me for a story they were running. I never got the call, but I did see thanks to Design Sponge and Red is for Passion that the article Handmade 2.0 came out yesterday. Wow the Austin Craft Mafia mentioned in the New York Times, who would have thought it. Between Handmade Nation and now Buying In: The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are coming out next year there is going to be so much interesting dialogue about craftism coming up I can’t wait.
From what I can tell, it’s been a great season for artists! Happy holidays, my friend!
