A few years back I got bitten by the scrapbooking bug. Each time I say this to someone they give me a bit of side eye. I have to assure them that scrapbooking has come a long way and my version is often not what you typically think of. I prefer more of a junk journal, Smashbook, art journal style – but I have been known to fill a few Project Life pages in my day. Especially when it comes to Halloween.

I spend so much time decorating, crafting, baking and preparing for Halloween and my annual Halloween party I end up with TONS of photographs. What to do with all these pictures? I know, make a Halloween themed scrapbook.

My Halloween scrapbook allows me to revisit my favorite holiday anytime of the year. I keep all my Halloween scrapbooking papers, tapes, stickers and embellishments separate from my traditional stash. When I bust out these two suitcases I know exactly what is inside and it instantly puts me in the mood to make a Halloween themed layout. Even if it is July.

I typically don’t concern myself with keeping the same party or same year on the same page. I like to do pages by theme or colors. You can see the pictures above are of the sensory bin I set out each year. Kids, rice and plastic snakes are a winning combination. Other themes might include witches, owls or super hero costumes. I think people get stifled by Project Life when they get too up-tight about the sequence and dates.

I like using Project Life style page protectors because you can think of each square as a mini page. I combine paper and embellishments from various companies as well as cell phone photos and those I have professionally taken.

Some people do December Daily, I do October Daily. Well ok I do December Daily too. I rationalize spending my retirement on stickers by telling myself that my kids enjoy looking through these scrapbooks almost more than I do. The look back and talk about their costumes, friends, favorite treats and more. I never thought I would be one of those memory keeping people, but when it is this much fun how could I not be?
I love scrapbooking and I love Halloween–your layouts are awesome.
Thanks Donna me too! Gives me an excuse to use all those fun stickers.
