Planning a big Cinco de Mayo fiesta? Well then clearly you will need the perfect centerpiece for the table. I’m always a big fan of flowers on the table, but for this shin-dig theme is important. If you don’t happen to have a Cinco de Mayo tree handy to put on the table a serape wrapped basket of flowers is the next best thing.

I have always loved the bright colors and texture of serapes. I’m drawn to them each time I see them in a market or in this case at the thrift store (score right?!?!). Wrapping your basket is really quite easy. You can use tape or hot glue to hold the serape to a basket. Go ahead and add pompom fringe, rickrack – the works because as I always say more is better. Once you have your basket covered in the serape you will need something to put your flowers in. I placed a plastic tupperware dish inside my basket filled with water and a little flower food. Next trim your flowers and foliage down to fit inside the basket.

Your perfect Cinco de Mayo centerpiece is born and was so easy to give birth to. Don’t stop at serapes think of all the other fun textiles you could wrap a basket with! However, for this holiday the look is perfect. Now to perfect my mole and margarita cupcake recipe.
