Something about January (and the prospect of a whole extra day in 2016) gets everyone thinking about goals, resolutions and dreams. What better time to make a boho doily dreamcatcher. Not the kind that catches bad dreams. The kind catches good dreams and vibes and helps make them become a reality. I’ve made colorful dreamcatchers with stenciled feathers for I Love to Create, taught classes on making them at TOMS for Darice and even tweaked the idea into a wreath for the DIY Network. Needless to say this project is easy, quick and somewhat addicting. Grab your doilies and let’s go.

SUPPLIES
Embroidery hoop
Doilies
Ribbon
Yarn
Embellishments

Use yarn to attach your doily to the embroidery hoop.

Embellish the hoop. Yarn, tinsel, ribbon, pompoms – most anything will work. Use glue or attach with more yarn or string by wrapping it in place.

Create a ‘tail’ for your dreamcatcher like this lovely student I had at TOMS Austin. Use feathers, ribbon, beads, yarn and more. The more random the better.

No really go crazy. You could even use some Stencil 1 stencils and felt to make your own feathers like I did for I Love to Create.

There is no right or wrong way. Each one like these students from TOMS will be unique.

If you are feeling really inspired take this idea a step further and make a wreath like the one I dreamt up on DIY Network. Embroidery hoops could easily be used in place of grapevine wreaths.

Now go catch those 2016 dreams and make them a reality!
